Snapshots from Indian Cricket

The following are not ranked in any order of preference.

1) Gordon Greenidge shouldering arms to an in-swinger from Balwinder Singh Sandhu only to see his off-stump cartwheeling in the 1983 World Cup finals.

2) Micheal Holding seems to stumble and is trapped LBW by Mohinder Amarnath again in the same match.

3) Kris Srikkanth hooks Marshall for a six over square leg, square cuts the next past point for four and has his body almost ripped in two before the vicious in-cutter sends his middle and leg stump cartwheeling. (Sharjah - don't recall when)

4) Madan Lal sprinting in faster than the pace of his deliveries. (Throughout his career)

5) Roger Binny's ample bottom shaking as he runs up to bowl.

6) Mohinder Amarnath's jhoom barabar- jhoom sharabi run up.

7) Ravi Shastri's deadly straight, straight drives.

8) Ravi Shastri's stoic forward defences ball after ball, over after over, session after session, day after day.

9) Leaving home with Shastri on 93, coming back after 2 hours to find him on 95. (India Vs Australia, Bombay, don't remember the year)

10) Shivaramakrishnan beating Imran Khan in the flight to have him stumped by Sadanand Vishwanath.

11) Raju Kulkarni falls as he runs up to bowl his first delivery in Test cricket. (India Vs England, Bombay, Don't remember the year)

12) Kapil Dev's natraj shot.

13) Gavaskar fends a Marshall bouncer to see his bat slip out of his hands and fall just short of mid wicket. (India vs West Indies, Kanpur, 1983)

14) Dilip Vengsarkars' animated cover drives.

15) Azharuddin's flicks from outside off stump.

16) Mohinder Amarnath out handled the ball to Greg Matthews (India vs Australia, dont remember the year).

Gotta go now. Please feel free to add to the list. Will add more as I remember.

Wow. You managed to rewind some lovely memories.

My checklist of additions:
• Young Tendlyaa hitting Abdul Qadir for 3 consecutive sixes in Sharjah (1989)
• Portly Pakistani keeper Arshad fending at a delivery from Siva like it was a spitting cobra and giving an easy catch to silly point at Sharjah (1984)
• Raman Lamba adjusting and readjusting his pads every ball of his career
• Krish Srikkanth getting run out in the first over of a match because he absent mindedly took a walk as was his habit
• Maninder Singh lbw Matthews in the Chennai tied test 1986
• Not out Dilip Vengsarkar crying after a heroic Ranji ton which saw Abey Kuruvilla run out and Haryana winning the trophy from Mumbai by 2 runs (1990)
• Syed Kirmani's karate kick at a growling Sandeep Patil on the poster of 'Kabhi Ajnabee The' (1986)
• Ravi Shastri's 6 6s of Tilak Raj in an innings of 200 of 120 balls in 1985 (I saw that game at the Wankhede Stadium)
• Sachin's magnificent 96 in a lost cause against Australia in the 1996 World Cup qualifier at Brabourne (one more match I was privileged to see live)
• Chetan Sharma scoring a chanceless ODI ton (don't remember against whom)
• Gavaskar outscoring Srikkanth in the 1987 World Cup game against the Kiwis hitting 4s and 6s liberally against Hadlee, Chatfield and Snedden
• Watching a long list of forgotten Paki pacers like Wasim Jaffer, Shahid Saeed, Tahir Naqqash and shadow batting against them in the small space behind my building
• Waking up at 2am with yellow wafers and Maggie Hot and Sweet tomato ketchup to watch India in the 1985 World Championships of Cricket with my dad. Ah, those animated ducks, Richie Benaud's commentary and not wanting to go to school later days!
• Watching Sachin Tendulkar get out for 14 runs in a Harris Shield match at Shivaji Park in 1988, along with a crowd of over 2,000 people
• Bowling to Sachin Tendulkar in the nets at Achrekar sir's pitch and seeing him cream my gentle off spinners all over the park

Thanks man...will update more

8 Great "Modern" Indian Cricketing & 2 Non-Cricketing Moment.

1. 2001, Eden Gardens (has to be Eden!) VVS Laxman scoring 59 in the Indian first innings and then coming out to bat again in the followed-on second innings and ending up scoring 281. Perhaps, the greatest innings played by an Indian batsman. Rahul Dravid deserves a mention too for that priceless "I Am The Wall"-moniker-earning 180.

2. Tendulkar lifting Shoaib Akhtar over long on for a six, in the third over the match. WC 2003. (A very close second)

3. Kumble taking all ten wickets of a Pakistani innings at Kotla.

4. Tendulkar two back-to-back ODI centuries againt Australia at Sharjah. One in the last round robin match to make India qualify for the finals. Other to obliterate the Aussies in the finals. (Michael Kaprowicz still has nightmares)

5. Harbhajan bowling Australia out of the Test and the series at Chennai in 2001, thus earning the moniker "Turbanator"

6. Sehwag's hitting a six to cross the 300 mark and become the first and only Indian batsman to complete a triple ton. Multan, 2004.

7. Dravid's 270 against Pakitan at Rawalpindi. Third test against Pakistan. Won us the series.

8. Ganguly's tone-setting 144 against Australia at Brisbane. 2004

AND now the non-cricketing ones...

9. Kaif parents switching off the TV set after Sachin's dismissal as India chased England's 326 at Lords'. Natwest Trophy final. Their son and Yuvraj later won India the match and the Cup.

10. Same match. Ganguly's takes off his shirt on the Lords' balcony and gives one back to Freddie Flintoff, as India win the Natwest Trophy. The defining moment of the Modern Indian cricket!
